On May 21, 2009 the Consulate General hosted the exhibition
opening of “Berlin Artspotters,
a joint collection by Berlin-based artists Konstantin Schneider and Jan Sobottka, curated by Marc Wellmann.

On behalf of the Consul General Dr. Horst Freitag, Dr. Thietmar Bachmann, Head of the Cultural Section, welcomed over 100 guests at the German House, among them art experts Eileen Guggenheim and representatives of the ISCP.

“Berlin Artspotters” is a joint work that combines photography and video art, reflecting the dynamic art scene in Berlin. The artists’ work, a mixed media installation, chronicles the most recent developments of today’s art scene by documenting almost all relevant openings in the city. Their art work does not only mirror the creative energy of the city and its people, but reveals at the same time the artists’ passion for art and Berlin’s art scene itself.

Berlin as one of the world’s most creative and artistic metropolises, along with New York and London, inspires and attracts art lovers and creative minds from all around the world. Over the last two decades, the city has experienced enormous changes, from politics and infrastructure, to architecture and culture. Over 600 art spaces, from museums to galleries, prove the city’s status as one of the most important art cities, covering any type from underground projects to exhibitions in established and internationally acclaimed art institutions, such as the Hamburger Bahnhof or the Pergamon Museum.

Berlin’s art scene is a prime example of the city’s fast growing and steadily developing process comparable to the fast pace of modern culture in New York. New York City itself, as a nexus of contemporary art and a meeting point for art lovers around the world, is the perfect place to exhibit a work that reflects art and the art scene by the medium of the art itself. Parallels between New York and Berlin are more present than ever, so make sure you do not miss the “Berlin Artspotters” at the German House!

The exhibition will be on display until June 26, 2009.
Opening hours: Mon - Fri  9:00 am to 5:00 pm
